WHAT'S INSIDE?

SETTING UP YOUR PRACTICE

IS IT TIME TO TAKE THE PLUNGE?

Starting a practice can be as frightening as the first time on the high dive. Would you like an experienced diver to stand on the board beside you with encouragement and helpful tips? The authors have both started successful private practices from scratch and learned a great deal along the way. Generativity urges them to convey information on what works...and what doesn't.

SETTING UP YOUR PHYSICAL OFFICE

SETTING UP YOUR OFFICE SPACE

We help you scout out the perfect office location, decorate your office and waiting room, create the necessary paperwork, buy the right software, and dress for the part. We also discuss the interpersonal stance that will bring clients back for more sessions.

PLAN YOUR BUSINESS

YOUR BUSINESS PLAN

We understand that you are passionate about working with clients and eager to get started. In order for that to take place, you must first do the paperwork. Before building a beautiful house, you need to build a strong foundation. Building the foundation isn’t as much fun, but it is critical to the stability of the house.

EXPANDING YOUR REFERRAL SOURCES

ADDING NEW REFERRAL SOURCES

Success is all about referrals! Establishing a good pipeline of patient referrals is the number one factor in maintaining a successful practice. You will learn how to create effective presentations, and decide where they are needed. You'll learn how to connect with ministers, social agencies and medical professionals to keep new clients coming through the door. You will also learn how promoting yourself as both a specialist and a generalist can expand your referral base.

GROWING YOUR PRACTICE

MOVING FROM SURVIVE TO THRIVE

A few simple changes can help a solo practice become a small dynasty! We will examine running a business without taking insurance at all, i.e. offering your services on a “private pay” basis. We’ll explore how to go about getting accepted (“paneled”) by major insurance companies as a preferred provider. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of offering a “sliding scale” for clients who can’t afford your full fee.

IS IT TIME TO EXPAND?

ADDING NEW THERAPISTS AND LOCATIONS

When you have more clients than you can handle on your own, how do you keep the momentum going? We help you explore a variety of solutions that can keep your practice thriving and your clients happy. Expanding can be as scary as starting; we help you decide when the time is right. We also discuss the transition from the role of "therapist" to the role of "therapist/manager."

MAINTAINING YOUR PRACTICE

MAINTAINING YOUR PRACTICE

We help prepare you to encounter stresses that you may not have considered: flirtation, subpoenas, manipulation, no-shows, slow-pays, suicide threats, professional burnout, and community encounters with clients. Be prepared!
