The State of North Carolina (NC) is the first of the 50 states to attempt to pool patient healthcare information and share it on-demand with any participating healthcare provider. Sharing your patient’s clinical information is voluntary for most insurers, but it is mandatory for patients receiving state funds. This includes NC Medicaid patients and certain NC Blue Cross/Blue Shield state health plans.
As a Mental Health Provider/Therapist, what do you need to do in order to comply with NC HealthConnex?
If you accept Medicaid or State Health Plan employees as clients, to comply with North Carolina law, you must make a good faith effort to connect to the North Carolina Health Information Exchange by June 1, 2020.
A good faith effort means that you must complete either a “Full participation agreement” which allows providers full use of the NC HealthConnex current and future value-added features as well as provide for the State’s requirement for the submission of clinical and demographic data.
you may submit a “Submission Only Participation Agreement” which enables providers to submit the clinical and demographic data required by law in a one-way technical connection.
